Dvorak's Opera "Wanda" (Vanda) on WFMT Tuesday April 8

Published Apr 3, 2008, 4:03pm

This is just a very brief heads-up for those taking John’s Dvorak class, or anyone who’s a Czech opera fan.

Wanda (Vanda) by Antonin Dvorak

WFMT Radio, 98.7 FM or via the web at WFMT.com

Chicago-area classical radio listeners probably already know of WFMT’s Tuesday Night Opera (hosted by Peter Van de Graaf, sponsored by LaSalle Bank). Each Tuesday, Peter plays an opera recording, often from neglected repertoire, or a legendary historic recording.

Vanda is Dvorak’s fifth opera, based on the Polish legend of Princess Wanda.

Unfortunately, I can’t imagine locating a free libretto on the web, but for those interested, this Orfeo recording on the broadcast is commercially available:

There’s also a recording from Supraphon, reviewed by George Jellinek:
